MAXWELL JAMES HOFFMAN, JR.

James “Jim” Hoffman passed from this life on July 11. He was 86.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette D. Hoffman. He was born in 1928 in Lebanon, Pa. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He began his career in banking at the First National Bank of Lebanon. Eventually, his career would lead him to Kennett Square, where he worked for the National Bank and Trust Company. He was instrumental in guiding the bank through a number of mergers, which in turn led to a position with Meridian Bank as senior vice president for North American relationships. After retirement from Meridian in 1988, Jim realized a personal dream, and was one of the founders of Security First Bank in Media. In his later years, he became a financial consultant with local enterprises.

Through his life, Jim was an entrepreneur, served on the Kennett School Board, chaired local and county organizations, and was involved with the community in various capacities. He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. He loved music, was an active skier into his 70s and was a proud member of the Kennett Koffee Klatch.

He is survived by his four children; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister and a sister-in-law.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on July 16 at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery (235 Maple St. East, Mt. Lebanon, Pa.). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Willow Tree Hospice, 616 Cypress Street, Kennett Square, Pa 19348. To share a memory with his family, visit www.griecocares.com.
